Hi all,
The two links listed below, are previews of a new British country music TV channel which is due to start in a few months time. The channel is there to promote British country music and has a working title of The Bunkhouse.
We are also looking for acts to come to the studio and make a contribution for our second series of programmes which will be based on Country Gospel.
I would be grateful should you be able to let any country fans know about this and for any feedback or information regarding interested parties.

On 18th October 2008, a special event will be held in Tameside, Greater Manchester.
This will be an “all-day event”, from 1:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., and will feature 4 of the best 4/5-piece country bands from the North of Britain, with 6 hours of live country music.
The idea for the event came from various discussions during 2007, to try and increase the general awareness and acceptability of modern British Country Music not only to the present Country audiences, but also to music lovers in general.
The bands have been chosen to provide a good variation of modern country music, with an emphasis on self-penned music and the lesser-performed material, which should appeal to a wide range of music tastes, and hopefully will go some way toward changing the general perception of Country Music in Britain.
The bands in order of appearance will be:
Settlers Creek, a 4-piece band from Blackpool, playing modern country covers, and including a selection of the band’s original material.
Brian Hughes and the Lonesharks, a 5-piece band (guitars, drums and keyboard) from Scotland, playing mainly original material from Brian, with a few covers.
Buchanan , a 5-piece band (guitars, drums and steel guitar) from Manchester, playing mainly the band’s original material (including tracks from their 2007 album of the year – “The Picture”)
Raising Cain, a 5-piece Country Rock band (guitars, drums and keyboard), from Cumbria and the North East, playing a unique selection of covers, with a number of the band’s originals.
Each of the bands are recording a new CD, and all are expected to be available during late summer.
The venue is the George Lawton Hall, Mossley, Tameside (OL5 0HR), situated in East Manchester, near Oldham, with easy access from the local motorway network.. There will be a fully licensed bar, large dance floor, with hot & cold food available.
Advance bookings for the event are now being taken, at £15 adult and £8 for accompanied children (11-16).

Brian Hughes and the LoneSharks
Brian Hughes are without doubt one of the UK's finest original material ‘Americana' bands.
From the beautiful shores of Loch Lomond, Scotland, they have established themselves as a ‘hot ticket act' in the UK festival scene where they have set the standard in original material shows, and are now viewed as contenders for the ‘Next Big Thing'.
With three successful album releases behind them, and a fourth currently in production, Brian's songs are the rock on which the live performance is built. Wonderful musicianship accompanied with professional attitude and commitment guarantees no one leaves a LoneShark show not impressed, this being clearly evident by the evergrowing fanbase.
The songs have been recognised by leading US music house Atlanta Music Group who immediately offered Brian a songwriter contract. He was thereafter invited to travel Stateside to play shows in Nashville, Tennessee and Atlanta. Georgia.

'Real Country Music' .. |
The British Country Music Association (BCMA for short!) was formed 'way back in 1968. Members receive the informative bi-monthly BCMA Bulletin, giving up-to-the-minute news of what's happening on both the British and American country music scenes - details of tours, new record listings and reviews, festivals, concerts, magazines, radio, television and much more.
Members also currently receive, in the April of their subscription year, a free copy of the BCMA yearbook - a comprehensive "who's who" and "what's what" on the UK country music scene . Non-members may purchase a copy for £8.00 post-paid, but, as we said, members get it FREE!
In addition, members are offered the exciting opportunity to visit the United States on one of the BCMA's legendary annual trips. [ website ] |

The Thomas Fraser story is a remarkable piece of Scottish music history. From 1953 - 1977 he recorded thousands of songs at his home, in Burra Isle Shetland,on a reel-to-reel tape recorder.
" Thomas’ musical idol was without doubt the ‘singing brakeman’, Jimmie Rodgers. At an early age, Thomas constantly practised Rodgers’ style, perfecting the yodeling and guitar playing to such an extent that the similarity would, at times, become uncanny".
25 years later we get to hear 25 tracks of these lost recordings on CD. A fascinating collection of recordings featuring Thomas's clear strong voice and guitar picking featuring songs of Jimmy Rogers, Hank Williams, Hank Snow, and other early country songs. |
Now we get a third CD of long lost recordings that have come to light from friends attics.
Another great collection of 25 songs from this remarkable man.
Released 11th November 2005 www.thomasfraser.com
