Dear Friends
I cannot believe that i have been typing club gigs for OCTOBER. Scary, hey. For the moment I sincerely hope that you are enjoying the good weather we are getting...and are having a good time at one of the many Festivals. (Just remember to support your club too as much as you can...or it just might not be there when you want it to be!)
We have just had a very hectic couple of months. First we worked the huge Americana in Newark. What a week-end that was again...FABULOUS! Unfortunately we broke down in our hired van on the way down, and arrived there courtesy the RAC at 1.30am. (Thought Bev was going to have a heart attack! Ha!). One way of saving diesel! Seriously...all this driv-ing brought home to us how the bands must suffer with to-day’s diesel prices, it must be horrendous for them.
Anyway, Jan Abbott kindly did the report for us, have a wee look, its on page 54/55. Thank you so much Jan, and thanks for the pics, John.
After that we were home for 2 days, and then straight up to the Invergordon Festival. As always a great week-end. Great music, great people, lots of fun...and you can pitch your tent in the front garden! A huge thank you goes to Chris and Bev Jackson and all the A-Team at Americana, and also to Ann Carmody and all her team in Invergordon. There were a lot of happy people.
As mentioned before, we have a lot of new bands on the road, some of them bringing back old friends. For instance a lot of you will remember Joe from Rhodes County. Well, he is back as Tequila with his pal Graham. Then there is Buzzard Creek, they must go back more than 20 years (sorry, guys). And Davie Holland and his pals have put together a new 5-piece band called Shooter. Good luck to you all.
Muriel & John Mutch have decided to organise their first Festival in many years, and it will take place in Aberdeen at the end of October. It was them who started the successful Embo Festival, so lets hope that this will enjoy the same popularity.
I am sure a lot of you will remember Archie Paton, who supported anything ‘Country’ until his sad death last year. Now his daughters Audrey and Andrea, and his wife Nessie have organised a charity dance in aid of the McMillan Nurses. It will take place on August 30th in Johnstone. Try and give it your support by coming to join in, or even make a wee donation, a lot of people rely on these kind nurses in their hour of need.
Danny and I are very sorry that we were unable to join everyone at the Colorado CWC for their 25th Anniversary event. We hear it was a great event. It has always been one of our favourite clubs ( I know, we don’t get through there much these days…), and we would like to wish them all the very best in their new venue. See you there! Promise!
